With almost two decades in the hairdressing (no, hair designing) biz, David Moore is our go-to guy for all things hair related. He’s seen it all, and now, dear readers, you can benefit from his experience. This column is all about getting you there without blood, sweat or tears…

I don’t know about you, but I’d choose sexy over edgy any day!

Why, you ask?

Anyone can have a few pre-party drinks, a hot shower, and a little dance around the lounge room and think they have the confidence to pull off sexy. Besides, isn’t that what sex appeal is all about? Confidence?

Being edgy, on the other hand, takes far more skill and natural talent to exude.

To be edgy or “fashion forward” you will need the following:

1. A Murdoch-sized income to keep up with the trends;
2. A storage unit the size of a small house to accommodate what’s not “Hot”;
3. Lots of time to shop and holiday in all the fashion capitals. (And no, outlet complexes on industrial states are NOT fashion capitals).

Sexy is more affordable, easily adaptable and garners much more attention. When it comes to hair, here are some basics for you to consider:

What to do

GIRLS  -

Short hair should be styled well and versatile in shape. Think Katie Holmes or Selma Blair.

Medium or long hair should be kept in excellent condition with lots of shine and volume like Jessica Alba or Megan Gale.

GUYS-

Go for classic finishing like Clooney, Daniel Craig or Daniel McPherson.

Long hair should be left to the likes of Neil Perry or Alice Cooper (on second thoughts, someone give Neil Perry my number. Please.).

What NOT to do

GIRLS-

Being individual is all very well and good, but following in the footsteps of Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears or either Olson twin will only end in tears. Literally.

GUYS -

Steer clear of multi-coloured highlights or the semi-mullet and defiantly avoid an oily greasy mess like Pete Doherty (and NO, you can’t use Kate Moss as an excuse).

OK, in all honesty, I love the edgier looks of today. I get rather jealous that I can’t wear them, but my hair only grows one way and that’s boofy. My “sexy confidence” is good, but it’s not EDGY.

‘Til then

David
