Numero uno: the number and the position now held by our first Million Dollar Woman finalist, Amanda Myers.

Being ‘number one’ is something people the world over fight for, yet it’s a position that only people of a certain calibre can hold. It’s true that first in may be best dressed, but in life people often find it harder to get their outfit right when there’s no-one to draw inspiration from.

The fact remains that first impressions, be they good or bad, last (excuse the pun). From the get go Amanda Myers (affectionately known as AmandaRedd on Savvy Nation, and Little Red Riding Hood here at Savvy HQ) was different. A willowy redhead who you’d normally expect to see as the leading lady in an indie flick, her troubled past seemed to only further her legion of fans. Having battled and won an addiction with alcohol makes her of winners stock in Savvy’s opinion, and a force to be reckoned with. Savvy was keen to find out if Myers herself felt the same way.

“It’s not so much the winner’s edge but the determination that it’s bought me,” says Myers. Her determination can be heard in the words of her mantra: “Keep trying, have no regrets and the sky is the friggin’ limit!”

“A pushy workaholic with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) tendencies,” Myers laughs as she describes herself professionally. If this description holds any semblance of truth, Myers would not be the easiest of people to work with. When questioned about her strengths, Myers goes from giggling to agitated.

“Great,” she says, “you’re asking questions that are going to make me sound arrogant again.” Her reaction was one that Savvy found interesting considering American Culture is ingrained with the religion of self-belief and promotion. “Yes, they say we are egomaniacs with inferiority complexes,” she quips. Something that is unmissable about Myers is that she’s smart, savvy in fact.

On her weaknesses, “I think it’s that my skin is too thin, I take things too personally.” Indeed, it’s this personality trait that became her biggest opponent on the journey to becoming our first finalist.

“My least favourite part of the competition was when people said mean things about me,” she said.  However (we can only presume) it was outweighed by the advantages of a shot at winning a million dollars. This is also not to say that Amanda is not an advocate of free speech.

But first things first: where other contestants might have felt going first was a disadvantage, Myers viewed it differently. She is a woman with a plan and if her success proves anything it is that succeeding in a competition all comes down to knowing your point of difference.

“It was way easier going first,” advised Myers. “My tactic was to win first because I knew that more and more girls would be entering the competition and it was just going to get harder and harder.”

And win she did. Considering she now has eleven months to wait till the finals of The Million Dollar Woman in Sydney (and that she gets to see the Opera House), one has to wonder, what now?

On the cards is her move to L.A., and a modelling schedule that sees her booked out until after May. If following her dream of acting and modelling does not work out, Myers is relaxed. “ I’ll just go back to school and get my PHD,” she says.

With her place safely secured in the finals, she is generous with her advice for ladies with their sights on Savvy’s million.

“Answer your fans; keep in touch; write blogs that are interesting, and be nice!” Myers undeniably has ulterior motives in her request for ‘nice’ contestants, considering she’ll have to spend a considerable amount of time with them when she hits Sydney-town. Still, Savvy agrees ladies: be nice, it’s easier for everyone (especially Myers who will welcome each winner into the fold).

But until then, Myers can relax. She was Savvy’s first and as such she has already made an unforgettable mark.
