Shay's known for her great attitude and friendly personality; her friends call her "Bubbles". She could just as well be nicknamed "the whole package" because she has looks and sensuality to spare.
She originally used her charisma for broadcasting, a career for which she earned her Bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University, but a chance enounter on an airplane changed her focus.
"I met this crazy girl on a plane to Atlantic City, and on the flight, she totally talked me into being a model," Shay said. "She set me up with her agency, and the rest is history. She is now one of my really good friends. The funny thing is, she was the model and now she's a news anchor on TV. I wanted to be a news anchor on TV and now I'm a model!"
Shay has appeared in Muscle Magazine, Body Fitness, Optimum Lifestyle, Ironamn, Muscle and Fitness, Oxygen, American Curves, and REPS magazine. Her past work includes Body by Jake, Red Bull, Boost Mobile, Patron Tequila, Paradise Casino, Maserati, Monster Energy Drink, Hawaiian Tropic, Kitty Clothing, and Benchwarmer Trading Cards. She went on tour with Sammy Hagar, co-starred in ESPN's "Ballbusters", co-hosted HDNet's "Bikini Destinations" and guest starred on Spike TV's "The John Henson Project".
Shay got on her instant messenger to talk to Savvy about her taste in men, staying fit and walking the fine line of good taste...
Savvy: Thanks for talking to us. Good to "meet" you finally, if only virtually. What do you think has been the key to your success?
Shay: Just being nice. You would never believe how far being nice will get you. There are a lot of not so nice girls in this business, so if you are nice and easy to work with, people tend to want to keep hiring you.
Savvy: Seems like that would be obvious, but you're right. Some girls are a nightmare. Why are you so nice?
Shay: I'm from the Midwest. Normally, in the first 5 minutes that I meet someone, they're like "You aren't from LA, are you?" (Laughs) People say I'm too friendly to be from L.A. I guess I'm not jaded yet. I grew up in a really small town in Michigan. It is normal there to say "Hi" to people on the street, even if you don't know them. When I first moved to Los Angeles, I would say "Hi" to strangers and they would look at me like I was crazy!
Savvy: Seems like some might perceive your attention as flattery to get something from them.
Shay: Well, most people do think I'm really flirty so I guess it all runs together. (Laughs) I'm just always happy. I think I have a good work ethic, though.
Savvy: Savvy has had its eye on you for a while, but we finally got around to having Barry Smith photograph you for us.
Shay: I know! I've had a few photographers wanting to shoot me for Savvy. It's been a long time coming! I'm really excited to finally be a Savvy Girl!
Savvy: Same here, lady! Have you always been hot?
Shay: No! (Laughs) I was the goofiest kid ever. I had the biggest teeth and this little tiny head. Kids used to call me "jack-o-lantern head". I was also really, really skinny. My dad said that when I turned sideways and stuck out my tongue, I looked like a zipper. (Laughs)
Savvy: You definitely filled out nicely in all the right places. Do people ever look you in the eyes when they talk to you?
Shay: (Laughs) Sometimes... Ha! Once people talk to me, they usually figure out that I'm not just some dumb airhead. I have a college degree in broadcasting and don't use my looks to get what I want.
Savvy: According to your background, you were a diver, cheerleader and gymnast growing up. Is that why you're so fit?
Shay: Yeah, that and genetics. I never work out. I was the flyer in cheerleading, the girl they always threw in the air and tossed around. I miss cheerleading. It was my life for a while.
Savvy: Did you dream of modeling when you were a kid?
Shay: Actually, I never planned on being a model. I never thought I could be. I planned on being a news anchor after college in Michigan. I got my internship with E! Entertainment Television in Los Angeles, so I packed my Jeep Wrangler and drove cross country with a friend as soon as I was done with classes. We had no air conditioning in the Jeep, so we had to strip down to bikinis and sometimes bras and cutoffs because it was June and the desert was insanely hot! By the time we got to L.A., we thought we were going to have heat stroke!
Savvy: Now that sounds like a fun road trip.
Shay: After my internship on the "Wild On..." show, I was hired to work on the "Live from the Red Carpet" shows. I did that for over a year.
Savvy: Cool. What is your family background?
Shay: I'm kind of a mutt: German, French and Polish.
Savvy: A beautiful mutt!
Shay: My family is all blonde with blue eyes.
Savvy: What can you tell us about your Savvy photo shoot?
Shay: It was great! I had a lot of fun! I'm dying to see the pictures. The suspense is killing me! (Laughs) Barry Smith is great to work with. It was my first time shooting with him, and he's a really great guy, puts you at ease, even if you are walking around next to him naked.
Savvy: W-what?! I think I need to be on the set from now on...
Shay: (Laughs) The hair, make-up and wardrobe girls were amazing. I had no worries there because they're the best.
Savvy: Since you're a single girl, what do you want to do on our first date?
Shay: (Laughs) I'm a really low-maintenance girl. I don't need anything fancy. I do love to eat! Hopefully we would go to dinner somewhere! (Laughs)
Savvy: Whopper Value Meal is on me, baby!
Shay: (Laughs) My favorite place to go is this little dive bar in Venice, Calif. called the Whaler. You can sit outside on this little balcony overlooking the ocean and watch the sunset. It's just a cool, mellow place where you can sit in flip flops and feel all salty from the ocean breeze. You can order a bucket of Coronas and calamari and sit and talk and get to know someone while the sun sets. Yeah, that would be pretty close to the best date ever!
Savvy: And what kind of guy would you want there with ya?
Shay: I like a guy with muscles, but they don't have to be huge. Muscles are nice because they make you feel safe. I like guys who make a girl feel safe in general. When a guy is protective of me, I love that!
Savvy: What else?
Shay: I like guys who give me a lot of attention. If a guy doesn't give me enough attention, I tend to move on quickly. I also don't like it when guys play games. I don't have time for that. I don't even answer the phone when those playas call.
Savvy: What can guys do to hook up with a babe like you?
Shay: Just be yourself. You want a girl to like the real you anyway. When a guy is fake, a girl can see it a mile away.
Savvy: Got any advice for our readers to become better lovers?
Shay: Be very attentive to who you're with, give her all the attention that she could possibly want. Everyone loves to get attention, so make her feel like she is the only girl on the planet! That is enough to make a girl melt in your arms. And snuggle. Girls like to snuggle.
Savvy: What do you think women should do before they settle down and pop out kids?
Shay: A woman should try to achieve all of her goals on her own before she settles down. It's a big world out there, and there's so much to see and do, a lot of fun to have. It is best to be independent and try to do all of that before anyone settles down. I've traveled a lot of the world, and I'm glad I did all of that now because once you settle down, your freedom is limited and you can't just get away.
Savvy: Do you only date celebrities or do you date regular guys?
Shay: I like normal guys because I am a normal girl. Most celebrities aren't normal. I'm not saying they haven't tried to date me... (Laughs)
Savvy: Score one for the Average Joes. Do you have a lot of male friends?
Shay: I think it is really hard to just be friends with someone of the opposite sex. Every guy that I have ever just been friends with has eventually wanted more than just friendship, which is kind of sad. But that is just the way it works.
Savvy: What is the most romantic thing a guy has ever done for you?
Shay: He flew an airplane in the sky and wrote "I Love Shay" in the clouds...
Savvy: Holy crap, for real?!!! If that doesn't get a guy laid, I don't know what will!
Shay: (Laughs) Just kidding.
Savvy: Ah, you jester!
Shay: The most romantic thing I can think of was took out back in 8th grade. My boyfriend filled my locker to the top with Hershey's Kisses on Valentine's Day. Hundreds of the candies spilled out of my locker when I opened it between classes.
Savvy: Yeah, nice of him to leave you that mess to clean up! (Laughs) What does a guy have to say or do to get busy with you?
Shay: I feel like I have to know the real him. Maybe it helps if he does sit-ups.
Savvy: Ha! Most guys would rather do sit-ups than be vulnerable.
Shay: True, but then again, a girl feels vulnerable when she is naked.
Savvy: Speaking of that, have you ever posed nude in a magazine?
Shay: I thought about it, and it has never been something that I really wanted to do. I'm not saying I never would, though.
Savvy: Hope springs... It seems like every other girl is naked on the Internet already.
Shay: You know, the Internet is a very powerful thing. Once those images are out there, there is no getting them back. You'd better be ready for the whole world to see you naked, including your friends, family, neighbors, the mailman...
Savvy: Seeing you naked may save your mailman from going postal, you know!
Shay: (Laughs) I'm naked right now. It's too bad you aren't doing this interview in person.
Savvy: (Gulps) Got a web cam? (Laughs) Just kidding!
Shay: I just go to implied on my web site, but I shoot so much new content, keeping it as sexy as I can.
Savvy: If seeing you almost naked isn't enough for a guy's viewing pleasure, I don't know what would be. I find it hotter when the girl leaves something to the imagination rather than showing me the goods right away. Where do you draw the line, as a model, between sexy and trashy?
Shay: It depends on the situation. If it is a photo shoot, it could be anything, even just your facial expression could make a beautiful picture seem trashy.
Savvy: I guess we shouldn't use that picture where it looks like you are having an orgasm then. (Laughs)
Shay: No wonder everyone there is raving about my pictures! (Laughs)
Savvy: Speaking of sex, do you like a guy who is aggressive in the sack?
Shay: I love it when a guy takes charge! It is very sexy. In fact, I prefer it! I'm not saying that I am passive in bed, but there is something very hot about a guy who doesn't treat you like a fragile little doll...
Savvy: Any thoughts on foreplay?
Shay: I think it is a little over-rated. Just get down to the good stuff! (Laughs) God, I either sound like a prude or a hooker! My parents are going to read this.
Savvy: It's okay. You can tell them that bastard at Savvy just made up your quotes.
Shay: (Laughs) Oh okay. It's such a fine line because you want to be sexy enough to make guys want to visit your web site, but then you don't want to disappoint your parents if they read it.
Savvy: Hi Mom and Dad. Any thoughts, Shay, on women getting neurotic about seeing you on the web or in a magazine and judging themselves compared to you?
Shay: Women and men both need to realize that the photos in magazines are totally touched up and well-lit. I have hair and make-up professionally done. Women don't look like what you see in these pictures in real life, so don't starve yourself or dump your significant other looking for this perfect woman because it is all smoke and mirrors. Everyone has flaws.
Savvy: I envy the lucky guy who gets to discover your flaws up close and personal...
