1 a.m.
Just got back from The City Cancun nightclub and unloaded from a van packed with models like a can of sardines. (Think about that image for a moment. Good, isn’t it?) Enjoyed a nightcap with my newly found friends.

6:30 a.m.
Actually got a few hours of sleep before breakfasting with “Is She Hot?” contestant Andria Lea. I assumed her night was of the same epic proportions as my own, as she wore sunglasses in the restaurant. When I tried to trade tales, she smiled politely before explaining it was because no one had put on her face yet. Put her face on what, precisely, I was unsure. We bonded over cereal.

7 a.m.
Overheard a stranger talking on his cell phone in the lobby, telling his buddy back home that he was having so much fun that he was moving to Cancun because there are lots of jobs available, everything’s cheap and the climate is pretty damn great in January (as I write this, it is snowing back home in Georgia). “Besides,” this stranger said, “There are arrest warrants waiting for me if I come home.”

8:30 a.m.
Shot with fellow Southerner Elizabeth Leigh Sullivan on the beach. It’s January but felt like we are about a mile from the sun. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of beach shoots.

9:15 a.m.
On our way back to the hotel lobby, an Englishman stopped me and asked why there were so many “unbelievably beautiful women” walking around in bikinis. I explained to him that it was a model shoot and networking event. He seemed to appreciate his impeccable sense of timing. His wife didn’t share this appreciation.

10 a.m.
Went to the Ujena casting expo, which turned out to be an exclusively Savvy event. Go team.

10:52 a.m.
Got a call on my cell phone from a buddy back home who thinks he downloaded a virus while looking at X-rated sites on his wife’s computer and wanted my advice on what to do. I told him to run his anti-virus software and stop looking at porn.

10:59
Talked to a couple of models using Savvy VBlogs. Hey, watch out, David Letterman. There’s a new interviewer in town.

11:15 a.m.
Became apparent that half of the models were just then showing up. Started to see so many of them that I was confusing their names – brought back memories (however distant) of my bar hopping days.

12:15 p.m.
The ladies are arriving by the truckload. Yesterday I was standing around waiting for a model in need of a photographer. Now the tables have turned and the women are fighting over me. If I say that enough times, it might actually come true.

1 p.m.
Photographed Camilla Reily, a Scottish model. I asked her repeatedly to say, “I’m pushin’ the engines as hard as they can go, Captain…!” in Star Trek fashion. I am not sure that she enjoyed it as much as I did.

1:30 p.m.
Had lunch with model Melani whose husband is serving his fourth tour of duty in Iraq. She proudly boasted of the poster she did for her hubby posing in a thong in front of an American flag. It was inspiring to see a girl doing her patriotic duty for the troops.

3 p.m.
Photographed model Brandie, who is also an ISH contestant. The guys sitting at the bar were quite pleased to have Brandie posing next to their cervezas.

6 p.m.
Sat with Bruce Smith, an Italian model named Deborah, and a Brazilian model named Frances discussing philosophy over beers. Deb and Frances met at a pool party in Brazil, they said, and became travelling buddies. They caused quite a stir earlier in the day by literally posing over a family of four in one of the four hotel restaurants to get a shot. When time came for me to shoot with them, Frances taunted, “Do you think you can handle us?” Update: I survived. Just.

7:43 p.m.
Everyone gathered for orientation. Bob spread the Savvy lovin’, and laid down the law for the photographers for the end competition. I made nice with Hoss from Solomodels.com and G. Sebastian Higuera Sosa of Nikon Mexico.

9 p.m.
Headed to the Basic Discotheque for the Ujena Jam Foam Party. Good thing too. After two full days in this heat. I was in need of a good bath.
