She got her big break on reality TV, but this diva’s voice is what keeps people tuned in.
Her name is: Wanita Woodgette, aka, D. Woods.
Her bag is: Pop, R&B
She sounds like: A more girlish Mary J. Blige with a little J-Lo thrown in.
Download these songs: Damaged, You Don’t Know Me, Come Back.
The low-down: She owes everything to Diddy, but D. Woods is taking the fame she gained as one-fifth of Danity Kane and turning it into more than a flash in the pan. Despite many rumors of the group splitting, she tells Savvy straight-up that there’s more of the sizzling fivesome ahead.
“Currently I am working on the workout video Crunk Abs, more writing projects, but most my attention has been devoted to the upcoming Danity Kane project,” she told Savvy.com.
“As far as I can see March 11 is the day we are all waiting for so look out.
The album is going really well. It’s turning out to be very energetic and danceable. I don’t think y’all have really seen us dance like we want to, so we made sure most of the album allows us to do that.”
D. Woods said she has written songs for the album, but she isn’t going to “put out what is gonna be on the album just yet, it is still a wok in progress. Just know we are working to make it something people will want to dance to for years.”
She said she wasn’t really bothered last summer that there was so much speculation that the group was splitting up.
“If you ask me I feel like there was speculation the group was going to split up from the day we were put together. What was important was I knew what was going on and so did my group members. If people were talking it meant we were on their minds and I’m never mad at that.”
Will there be a fourth season of Making the Band, and will she and Danity Kane be part of that?
“I’m so glad you asked. Yes there is an upcoming season of Making the Band featuring Danity Kane and the new boy band. Tune in!
D. Woods collaborated with Gorilla Zoe on the song You Don’t Know Me.
“Zoe and I have know each other since high school, Tri-Cities! So the atmosphere was all love. He let me hear the tracks he wanted to do something to and I came up with the concept for You Don’t Know Me. Because I do know him, I know there is a lot more to him than what most people or his audience will see right off. But I wanted to open the door for discussion on what else he has to offer,” she said.
So what made her want to make a workout video?
“I had a lot of workout methods. I have to keep myself motivated and interested because I really don’t like working out. Both my trainer and I are trained in dance so we came up with these fun workouts that are entertaining. Also, because Im always on the go, they can be done in almost any hotel room, quick and easy. That’s the main motivation behind the video,” she said.
